How to Update AVG AntiVirus

Updating your AVG virus database is crucial for keeping your security protection at an optimal level. This support topic explains how to update your AVG.

Automatic Update

As new threats emerge every day, it's important to keep your local virus database in sync with AVG's central virus repository. Updates should be run on a regular basis to ensure continuous protection. Moreover, AVG will occasionally issue minor software and feature updates that are included in the download file.

In most scenarios, the AVG update is executed automatically and the out-of-the box configuration of AVG ensures regular updates. You can, however, fine-tune the automatic update schedule to adjust it to your special requirements.

To view your scheduled automatic AVG updates open the AVG Main Window and go to the Tools menu, click Advanced settings and then select Schedules. In the Schedules window you can get more details about your update configuration and adjust the settings to meet your requirements.

Manual Update

Updating AVG manually is done when you don't want to wait for the next scheduled automatic update. This may be the case if you suspect virus infection that hasn't been detected by AVG because of the outdated signature database.

To update AVG manually right-click the AVG tray icon and select Update now. You can also run manual update by opening the AVG Main Window and clicking the Update now button.

If there's any update available, it will be downloaded and applied to your system.
