Configuring Intrusion Prevention in Norton 360

Intrusion Prevention is a feature of Norton 360 that scans all incoming and outgoing Internet traffic to and from your computer and and compares it against a set of attack signatures.

Attack signatures allow Intrusion Prevention recognize potential attacks where a hacker attempts to exploit a security flaw or vulnerability in your system. When Intrusion Prevention is turned on, if delivers rock-solid protection against most common Internet attacks.

For example, if Norton detects that traffic matches an attack signature, the packets sent over the Internet are blocked and connection is terminated. This virtually disables this type of attacks.

How to turn on and off Intrusion Prevention notifications

  1. Click Settings in the Norton 360 main window
  2. Click Firewall in the Settings window, under Detailed Settings
  3. Locate the the Intrusion and Browser Protection tab, under Intrusion Prevention, in the Notification Alerts row, do one of the following:
    • Move the switch to the left to the On position
    • Move the switch to the right to the Off position
  4. Click Apply

How to turn on or turn off an individual Intrusion Prevention notifications

  1. Click Settings in the Norton main window
  2. Click Firewall in the Settings window, under Detailed Settings
  3. Click Configure on the Intrusion and Browser Protection tab, under Intrusion Prevention, in the Intrusion Exclusions row
  4. Click an attack signature, and then click Properties in the Intrusion Exclusions window
  5. Check or uncheck Notify me when this signature is detected in the Signature Properties window
  6. Click OK
  7. Click OK in the Intrusion Exclusions window
  8. Click Apply in the Settings window for Firewall
