What are false positives and why it is important to keep them low?

False positive occurs when a security software or security appliance identifies a fully legitimate piece of code as malicious, when in fact it doesn't contain any virus or other harmful content.

Such harmless software falsely identified as dangerous are called false positives. Often, low quality of free antivirus software generate a high volume of false positives which is not desired.
