What is Botnet?

Botnet is a common name for computer robots that are interconnected and work for the common purpose in a large, worldwide network. Botnets are created by hackers and criminals intending to exploit spyware, Trojan or bot-infected computers of unaware users to conduct their criminal activities such as harassment, blackmailing, intrusion attacks or mass distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS).

Infected PCs connected to the Internet are being turned into so called "zombies", that work under common command and control of a criminal or group of criminals.

To prevent falling victim to such attacks, customers are advised to use Internet security software that is able to tackle bot infections, such as Norton AntiBot or Norton Internet Security.
